Receiving successive privileges from the Crown (of Hungary), the establishment had a fast and prosperous evolution. One of the present symbols of the city, King Matthias the Just, from the Hunyadi family, can be traced back to these times. Five centuries after his birth in Cluj, in modern times, his figure led to some awkward local decisions which, for a while, changed the look of the city.
This guided tour of Cluj will walk you through ancient, medieval and modern history, revealing typical Central European architecture, urban legends and colorful lifestyle.
