For monasteries visits: shoulders and knees should be covered for both men and women. Skirts and scarfs are sometimes offered at the entrance. For salt mine visit: non slippery-shoes & appropriate warm clothing recommended (the constant temperature inside the salt mine is 10-12° C).

Cluj-Napoca

Arrival in Cluj-Napoca. Pick up from the airport and transfer to the hotel. Depending on the hour of your arrival, you can opt for a guided tour of the city (also available on the last day, depending on departure schedule).

Cluj – Maramures

Your guide will meet you in the morning and you will begin the journey together, heading from Maramures. First stop of the day will be in Surdesti village, for the visit of the wooden church, the first UNESCO heritage site on your itinerary.

Lunch in a restaurant and continue with the visit of the colorful Merry Cemetery from Sapanta.

Route to Desesti village for he visit of the wooden church, another UNESCO heritage site. Here you will discover the best preserved interior painting of all the wooden churches of Maramures.

In the afternoon, take a walk in one of the best preserved traditional village in Maramures.

Maramures – Bucovina

After breakfast, visit the new monastery of Barsana, remarcable for its mix of modern and traditional architecture.

Departure for Bucovina, across the Carpathian Mountains. Stop in Ciocanesti to see the traditional decorated houses. Lunch on the way in a restaurant.

Visit the painted monastery of Moldovita, famous for it’s Siege of Constantinople fresco scene.

As decorating the Easter egg is an ancient Hutsul tradition that you must not miss, you’ll have the chance to assist at such a demonstration.

Continue the journey with the visit of the most famous of all painted monasteries in Bucovina: Voronet monastery (UNESCO site).

Bucovina – Sighisoara

After breakfast, a long transfer to Transylvania ensues, which will take you through Bicaz Gorge and by the Red Lake in the Eastern Carpathians.

Lunch in a restaurant. After lunch, transfer through one of the biggest depressions of the Eastern Carpathians, the homeland of the Hungarian speaking Szekely Transylvanians.

During late afternoon and early evening you’ll walk through Sighisoara – Transylvania’s best preserved medieval town, also included in the UNESCO world heritage list, world-renowned for being Dracula’s birth place. (All Dracula stories are to be taken with a pinch of salt, of course.)

Sighisoara – Sinaia – Brasov

After breakfast, transfer to Sinaia for the visit of Peles Castle, the first castle built by the Romanian Monarchy during the 19th century. Chance to admire the personal arts collections of the royal family. Lunch in a restaurant.

Return to Brasov, one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Transylvania. Discover the Black Church, easternmost Gothic church in Europe, and enjoy a guided tour of the old town. Free time in the afternoon.

Brasov – Prejmer – Bran – Sibiu

Breakfast and short lift to explore Prejmer fortified church. Out of over 200 fortified churches preserved in Transylvania, this is for sure the most intriguing and fascinating. Not to mention that it is one of the first nomitated as UNESCO heritage site.

Transfer to Bran village to visit the so called ‘Dracula’s Castle. Built in the Middle Ages and yet modernized at the beginning of the 20th century, Bran castle is now one of the most visited places in Romania.

Lunch in a restaurant. Departure for Sibiu, the best defended medieval fortified town in Transylvania, named European Capital of Culture in 2007. Tour the four defensive walls of the old city to discover the local landmarks.

Sibiu – Alba Iulia – Turda – Cluj

Breakfast and departure for Alba Iulia, the city Romanians love the most. Visit Alba Carolina Vauban citadel and discover all its inside stories : all about the ancient Romans, the Hungarian kings, the union of Transylvania with Romania.

Continue the journey to Turda. Visit one of the most incredible underground location in Europe: Turda salt mine. Holding both a historic and a modern side, the salt mine is a must see in Transylvania.

Transfer to Cluj and overnight in a 3* hotel.
