Tour description

Departure from Cluj at 8:30 am. Your day will begin with a fabulous underground voyage into the wombs of the ancient salt mine from Turda*. Used as an antiaircraft shelter during WWII, as cheese ripening center during the communist period and finally upgraded to an amusement park, the salt mine from Turda still preserves thousands of chisel and hammer marks, left by the miners once working here as their ‘salt signature’.
Entering the Apuseni Mountains, you will discover Rimetea, a Hungarian village wonderfully preserved in accordance to nature. For centuries, Rimetea was famous throughout Transylvania for the iron mines. Lunch on the way.
Heading back to Cluj, stop for a 2h hike in Turda Gorges reserve. Cross the canyon (two ways) and admire the 200m high walls. Visit a small fortified cave used by the locals as refugee in war time.
Back to Cluj in late afternoon.
