Tour description

Day 1
Departure from Cluj at 8am, heading for Bukovina. Positioned in North-Eastern part of Romania, in a mountain area, Bukovina is the region on painted monasteries by definition. Melting pot of over 11 different ethnic groups, Bukovina has much more to offer though: amazing landscapes, colorful houses, well preserved Hutsul traditions and warm hearted people.
Lunch on the way, in Borgo Pass.
Visit the painted monastery of Moldovita, famous for it’s Siege of Constantinople fresco scene. As decorating the Easter egg is an ancient Hutsul tradition that you must not miss, you’ll have the chance to assist at such a demonstration. Continue the journey with the visit of the most complete and best preserved of the painted monasteries: Sucevita. If you’re looking for spiritual perfection, you may find inspiration here, watching the Ladder of Virtues fresco scene.
Dinner with the locals and accommodation in a rural guesthouse.
(dinner included, breakfast & lunch not included)
Day 2
In the morning leave for Chernivtsi. Although the distance is quite short, it might take a couple of hours to cross the border and get there. Lunch in a restaurant and meet the local guide for the Chernivtsi city tour. Ranking third in size within the Austrian Empire, after Vienna and Prague, Chernivtsi is intriguingly beautiful and mysterious. Visit Chernivtsi University (UNESCO heritage) and, time permitting, in the afternoon, do some shopping in the largest outdoor market in Ukraine.
Dinner in a restaurant and accommodation in a 4* hotel.
(breakfast included, lunch & dinner not included)
Day 3
Breakfast and departure, together with the local guide, for Podolia region. Visit Khotyn medieval fortress, one of the main attractions in Chernivtsi area. Lunch in a restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit the fortress and the museum city of Kamianets-Podilskyi, part as UNESCO heritage and ranked as third in cultural importance in Ukraine after Kiev and Lviv. Head back to Romania.
Dinner with the locals and accommodation in a rural guesthouse.
(breakfast & dinner included, lunch not included)
Day 4
After breakfast, visit Cacica salt mine, in the heart of the Polish inhabited micro-region of Bukovina. Continue with Voronet painted monastery, the most famous of all eight painted monasteries included in UNESCO heritage.
