Explore the Carpathian Mountains with its forest and gigantic mountain plateau. Enjoy a thrilling caving experience in the Cetatile Ponorului Cave.
In the middle of the Western Carpathians, the Apuseni Nature Park covers a surface of over 75,000 square metres. Characterized by a complex limestone relief, the area reveals not only stunning caves and ice-caves, but also very picturesque mountain villages.
Cetatile Ponorului Cave is located in the very heart of the Padis limestone plateau. It is well-known and became the symbol of Padis and gained the surname ‘Romanian Caving Everest’.
From the vast diversity of caves in Romania (over 12,000) we’ve chosen Cetatile Ponorului Cave for some very good reasons: It is not a tourist adapted cave, therefore you will have an authentic experience such as the very first explorers had. The Cetatile Ponorului Cave is included in the national and international speleology heritage and is famous throughout Europe for its gigantic portal of 80m height, being the tallest portal in Romania. Furthermore, it is disposed in 3 dolines and includes a gallery of over 2km lenghth and 14 underground lakes.

Tour description

Departure from Cluj in the morning towards the Apuseni Mountains. Once arrived, we put on the caving gear and let ourselves leaded by adrenaline along the above mentioned cave galleries. According to weather conditions we can take a fossil or active underground gallery. Minimum underground stay: 4-5 hours. Arrival back in Cluj in the evening.
